Pa’u o Hi’aka and nā Mokulua

My favorite place to spend time is along the Hawaiian shorelines. There’s nothing like the sound of the surf, and smell of saltwater in the air, sand between my toes. I love all the beautiful and resilient plants, the birds flocking in the brackish wetlands, the hidden wonders of the tidepools. So I was delighted and inspired when I heard that Hawai’i DLNR had declared 2026 Makahiki Kuleana Kahakai: the Year of Our Coastal Kuleana. Enjoy this series of paintings and may it inspire you towards a deeper relationship with these special spaces between the land and the sea.
